River Rescue for River Runners - $225.00
Now a 2 day course allows us to work on more boat-based rescues. This course is designed to teach the fundamentals of rescue and safety. Remember, a lot of the problems that arise can be solved with proper planning. If you're not a paddler but spend a lot of time around the river this course will help keep you safer in and around the water, just skip the boat-based rescues on the afternoon of the first day for a discounted price.
Day 1 AM
Starts in the classroom with waivers and paper work then moves on to discuss the principles of rescues, and preplanning. We then cover basic knots and rope work. We also go over basic gear that everyone should carry and when to use it. We also encourage discussion from the group regarding incidences that they have wondered about or have dealt with.
Day 1 PM
After lunch we will be doing a river run on an easy section of river to practice boat-based rescues to get swimmers and gear safely to shore using different methods to do this plus when it would be safe to do so and what precautions you should take. Again this will be done on an easy section of river so paddlers of all abilities can participate.
On the second day of the course we will be in the water. Some of the skills we will be covering are swimming and throw bagging. Entrapment avoidance and rescues, strainers, contact rescues and the uses for the rope work we learned on day 1.
